Season 1 of Netflix's original comedy series "Atypical" ended with a cliffhanger and fans are excited about season 2. Netflix renewed the series and ordered 10 new episodes. There is still no official release date for the second season.

The main plot of the series revolves around the struggle of Sam Gardner (Keir Gilchrist), 18, who is navigating his life with his Autism condition. Season 1's finale ended with Doug (Michael Rapaport) sarcastically asking his wife Elsa (Jennifer Leigh) if she had an affair. The scene followed Casey (Brigette Paine) left and wrote a message on the bulletin board saying, "Stop banging the bartender." However, it was a happy ending for the main character Sam who enjoyed a silent prom with his friends. Meanwhile, Julia (Amy Okuda) found her boyfriend Miles (Michael Rady) back home after receiving her message telling him about her pregnancy.

With season 2 greenlit, the show has yet to release any information about the plot of the story and if there would be new characters appearing. The series received an 8.4 out of 10 score from IMDb and 76% score rating from Rotten Tomatoes. However, according to Bustle, the series was not well received by the Autism community. There are claims that the series did not present an accurate portrayal of a person with autism. He then concluded that the only exciting thing about "Atypical" for him is writing a negative review about the series.

During an interview with Today, Gilchrist said he met a lot of people who are on the Autism spectrum and they helped him understand the condition. "Growing up I definitely, actually happened to have a lot of friends. And like my neighbors, when I was a little kid, had two kids on the spectrum and I have a lot of friends whose siblings are on the spectrum," he said.
