'Arrow' season 5 spoilers: Felicity paralyzed again in teaser for 'Underneath' episode

Season 5 episode 19 ended with a bang, literally. An explosion sent Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) flying, after they found out that Prometheus (Josh Segarra) was in the same location as they were, using the biometric tracker that hacktivist group Helix gave Felicity as a parting gift. However, it was not just an ordinary explosion.

Next week's episode titled "Underneath" picks up where the previous episode ended, and in the trailer released by The CW, Felicity reveals that the explosion is an electromagnetic pulse (EMP). When Oliver asks how she knows this, she answers, "Because the spinal implant that helps me walk isn't working. I can't feel my legs."

Although Oliver is fine, the explosion did more than just paralyze Felicity's legs again. It also knocked out all the technology in bunker, which means that all the equipment for their operations are now useless and Felicity has no way of utilizing technology to get themselves out, making her paralyzed in this matter as well. As stated in the synopsis for episode 20, they will indeed get trapped in the bunker together after the explosion and it is up to Oliver to be creative enough in finding a way for both of them to escape.

Their time together in the bunker will also be an emotional one as the two will be forced to tackle their issues. Ever since Oliver and Felicity broke up in season 4, they never really got the chance to talk about it. For next week's episode, showrunner Wendy Mericle teased that the two may be on the road to reconciliation.

"They are definitely on the road toward — well, the interesting thing about taking her down this road with Helix is she is going to come out of it with this, the same way Diggle came out of it when he killed his brother — new understanding and appreciation for where Oliver's been and what he's been through," Mericle told Entertainment Weekly.

"No matter whether they end up together or not — sorry, all Olicity Twitter fans — this is going to absolutely deepen the relationship. It has to. She's now gone through her own island in a way."

"Arrow" season 5 airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EDT on The CW.
