Apple Watch 2 release date rumors: Thinner display and longer battery life expected, thanks to One Glass Solution?

The Apple Watch 2 will reportedly have a much thinner display and will make use of the all-new One Glass Solution or OGS touchscreen technology.

One Glass Solution basically gets rid of one of the layers of glass from the capacitive touchscreen stack, thus decreasing the thickness of the display.

The report comes from Digitimes, whose track record with Apple products is a bit of a hit and miss. The publication credits the piece of information to touch panel maker TPK Holding.

The company's revenue, which was revealed during the recent investors conference, was severely affected by Apple's move to turn to OGS for the Apple Watch 2.

"The large loss for the second quarter was mainly because touch panel orders for iPhones continued to decrease," Digitimes claimed.

"And Apple will change touch panel technology from G/G to OGS (one glass solution) in the new Apple Watch to be launched in the second half of 2016," the report added.

Mashable reports that if the Apple Watch 2 will not be made thinner because of OGS, Apple will likely use the room for a larger battery pack for the wearable.

After all, it will need all the juice it can get with the rumored LTE cellular connectivity that the Cupertino-based the firm is reportedly integrating along with built-in GPS or Global Positioning System.

Users can also expect more functions and less dependability on smartphones in the Apple Watch 2, with the tech titan working hard to make it as feature-rich as possible.

The company has taken huge steps in making that happen with the watchOS 3, which was introduced at the Worldwide Developers Conference or WWDC last month and is expected to debut in the Apple Watch 2.

With regards to when that launch will actually happen, reports say that the new iteration of the Apple Watch will see the light of day September at the earliest.
