The latest news on Apple is that it distributed invites to its upcoming event, which will be held in San Francisco on Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. EST.

Word has it that the event will be launching new models of iPhone and, of course, the much anticipated Apple TV.

The next generation of Apple TV, also dubbed as the fourth generation, will cost less than $200, according to reports; and it will be available for sale by October.

9to5Mac reported that executives of the company are still deciding on the final price for the redesigned device, but it could be somewhere between $149 to $199, higher than the price of the third-generation version.

The current Apple TV had an original price of $99 when it was launched back in 2012, and then it was slashed down to $69 in March this year.

The new Apple TV will offer several features that should distinguish it from the previous model.

However, when it comes to appearance, the Apple TV will still look the same as the current model; but it will carry a slightly wider and thicker design, sources indicate, according to a report from 9to5Mac.

For the fourth-generation device, it will have features such as Siri support, App Store, and a new remote control.

The new remote control is considered as the highlight of the new design because it is said to have a touch pad and will also be a bit thicker than the third-generation device's remote. This claim surfaced earlier in May in a report from The New York Times.

The new set-top box of Apple TV will be costlier than alternatives coming from Amazon and Google, but Apple will still continue selling current model at $69.

Eweek reported that Apple TV, which was introduced in 2007, hasn't undergone major changes since 2013; but it is now expected to carry some updates that should serve as the first significant changes done to the device.
