More and more handsets are receiving the Android Marshmallow treatment. The latest set of smartphones to enjoy the sweet new update is the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the HTC Desire 816.

Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow is currently being rolled out to the unlocked versions of the 2-year-old Samsung flagship in South Korea. Units with the model number SM-G900L are the subject of this update.

As it is the latest build of the mobile operating system, Samsung Galaxy S5 users will get extra bug-quashing tweaks and stability improvements on top of the new features introduced in the software's original build.

On the other hand, HTC Desire 816 owners in Saudi Arabia should already be receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The software installation, to note, is a two-step process.

The first download is at 55MB and is simply designed to prepare the HTC Desire 816 for the Android Marshmallow. The second part will be much heavier at 1GB because this is the version that officially loads the software on the device and bumps up the Sense UI to version 7.0.

Android Marshmallow comes with exciting new features. To begin with, there's the new Doze mode, which puts the device to a deep sleep and closes all the apps running in the background to preserve battery life.

In line with this is the new Do Not Disturb mode, which simply gives Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC Desire 816 users the ability to choose the priority contacts and apps that are allowed to send or pop up notifications on the device.

Android Marshmallow also introduces a new type of security system within apps as well as the much-loved Google Now on Tap, which makes information relevant to the user's interests easier to access. The software also adds separate volume controls for alarm and the ringtone.

Those who haven't received the notification for installation yet can head to the Settings of the handsets to manually check the update's availability.
