With the Radeon RX 480 graphics card's specs already out, a lot of fans are trying to compare it with the Nvidia GTX 1080, and it seems that the former has already won.
According to Yibada, both of these cards already have CrossFire results, based on both card's performance in 3DMark FireStrike benchmarks. With the RX 480's reveal it shows that this graphics card can compete against the GTX 1080, with its price only amounting to $500 compared to the 1080's $700 price range. As for the benchmark used for this comparison, they used the "Ashes of the Singularity" DX12 game, which sparked online controversy because of the palpable difference in image quality.
This kind of test involving synthetic benchmarks has been the basis for gauging and estimating the power level of a graphics card. The higher the scores, the higher the probability of it performing better in more games. However, this test is still not perfect: there are other factors that need to be considered when it comes to games.
For the CrossFire setup with the Radeon RX 480, it garnered 81 percent in 3DMark Firestrike benchmarks. The GTX 1080, however, got a score of 80 percent in the same setup, which means that the former was able to perform 1 percent better compared to the latter.
However, under the Ultra preset, Nvidia's Pascal-based card was able to score more than AMD's Polaris-based cards: 4998 to 4990, respectively. AMD is able to beat Nvidia in terms of the Performance preset, with 22721 score against 21828. Also, the AMD card can hit higher frequency clocks when overclocked, clocking in at 1.5GHz for the core clock with generic air cooling.
However, TechFrag reveals that it's possible for AMD to reveal more cards in its Polaris line soon, so it would be best if users keep an eye out for that instead of rushing headlong to buy the Radeon RX 480.
