2016 Range Rover Evoque specs and features revealed

2016 Range Rover Evoque convertible Jaguar & Land Rover Official

Land Rover recently introduced the newest addition to the Range Rover lineup, the 2016 Range Rover Evoque ahead of the Los Angeles Auto Show this week.

According to the official press release from Jaguar & Land Rover, the convertible SUV was unveiled at Santa Monica, California, with actress Naomie Harris ("Spectre") as one of the people to get the first view of the Range Rover member.

As noted in the review by New York Daily News, the top of the vehicle folds in a matter of 18 seconds. This is made possible because the material used was soft fabric instead of a hard-top.

The two-door convertible SUV is just the right vehicle for anyone in Los Angeles, where the sun always shines.

The convertible Evoque is much longer, measuring 4,370 millimeters, and also a bit wider compared to the hard-top cars, as stated in a report from Auto Express. This means that the SUV packs in more weight.

As for the engine, the convertible Evoque runs on a 240-horsepower turbo 4 engine with a nine-speed automatic transmission that allows owners to make the most out of the gas. The car also features a Terrain Response system that retains the vehicle's power whatever the road conditions will be.

Inside the cabin, the SUV features a 10.2-inch touch display with the new generation Jaguar Land Rover InControl Touch Pro system, as mentioned in the company's press release. This infotainment system allows smartphone integration and has Wi-Fi connectivity, door-to-door navigation and top quality sound system.

The convertible also comes with safety features that should protect the drive in case of a roll-over. The press release revealed that a "roll-over protection system" is embedded inside the rear of the car. When a roll-over happens, the system is triggered to quickly release two aluminum bars to create a protective space for the passengers.

2016 Range Rover Evoque is scheduled to arrive in spring of 2016 and will have a starting price of $50, 475. It may not be the first SUV to receive a crossover, (Nissan Murano Cross Cabriolet was launched in 2010), but it's the first for Range Rover.

The Evoque has been at the Santa Monica Pier since Nov. 18 until 20. It will debut publicly at the Los Angeles Auto Show, which will be held from Nov. 20 to 29.
