The Bible tells us that all of us are designed by God to be able to do good works. All who are in Christ are given the purpose of glorifying God and are commissioned to preach the Gospel to all men. We are to do both things excellently and with the fear of the Lord.
Many Christians, in trying to do these, end up failing. They are unable to exercise their gifts, maximize their potential, and reach God's intended goals for them - even after putting in time, effort, money, and resources. They simply are not able to do what they were meant to do.
Why does this happen? Why are so many Christians unable to do what they were meant to do?
It's because they try to do it like other people do.
Seeing God's design for you
The Bible tells us that God personally saw us being created. In fact, He personally formed us. Psalm 139:13-15 says,
"For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth."
God made us all personally. He made us all uniquely and individually, unlike how machines mass-produce items with the exact same specifications. Think about that.
Smartphones and other devices have different serial numbers, but these numbers only serve to identify the exact devices we own. God created us all unique and different from each other, yet He has numbered our hair (see Luke 12:7).
Mass-produced items, like laptops of the same make, specifications and brand, have the same capabilities wherever they are available. Man, because he is unique and different from one another, are given different measures of faith and gifts (see Romans 12:3-8).
What are you telling me?
At this point I'd like us all to think and realize that we're all unique from each other. God created us different from each other, complete with different sets of personalities, skills, abilities, and aptitudes. God deliberately created us this way because we are to do things that God wants us to do, and He designed us so that we would be the only ones who can and should do what He wanted us to do.
Ephesians 2:10 tells us,
"For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them."
You are unique, friend, and God intends you to do the things He wants you to do according to how He has designed you. Thus, you shouldn't copy other people.
We will do well to learn from other people's examples, but we are to ultimately do God's will for us according to His design for us. We should, then, seek to obey Him, not to copy other people.
