Presidient Mugabe of Zimbabwe declared at the funeral of Bishop Reckter that the people in his country should try to follow the tenets of Christianity more closely as the bishop did in his life.

According to the The Herald (Harare), he said, "We want the hospital to remain in the hands of the church and not to be given to the Government and if there are any misunderstandings on its administration this should be resolved amicably."

The bishop often emphasized the love for one another and for people to not kill one another with guns, something often absent from the African continent.

The president attended the services along with his wife and many other dignitaries, including other senior Government officials. Many thousands of mourners also were present.

President Mugabe was a good friend of the bishop and had met him on various occasions, including the construction of the Kutama Mission Hospital. Mugabe said that "We want the hospital to remain in the hands of the church and not to be given to the Government and if there are any misunderstandings on its administration this should be resolved amicably."

President Mugabe also said, “Do not take what does not belong to you because even if you are higher up in society we will deal with you.?He reminded the people that all corruption within the government will be punished.
