What does the Bible say about sex before marriage?

 Pixabay

In a world where premarital sex and promiscuity is no longer frowned upon, we can't help but wonder what the Bible says about these controversial topics. As Christians, we were taught that sex before marriage is a big no-no. And yet, we see other people have complete disregard of this. Despite seeing how the world deals with sexual immorality, it is time to take a step back and return to our roots – the word of God. Cling on to these Bible verses for more clarity.

1 Corinthians 7:2

But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.

In this verse, it was clear that Paul was describing any sexual activity that is outside of marriage as sexual immorality. One has to have his own wife or her own husband to be able to perform the act.

1 Thessalonians 4:3-5

For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God...

Now that it's evident that sex before marriage is a sexually immoral act, in this verse Paul says that you must obtain from any sexual immorality, which also means abstaining from premarital sex. He goes on to say that you must exercise self-control as you must always honor God's temple and not give in to lust.

Galatians 5:19-21

Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Apart from the instruction that Christians must abstain from sexual immorality, there is also a warning that anyone who will take part in these things will no be able to enter heaven. As you can see, even back then, these types of sexual immoralities were already happening. This shows that man has always been tempted with lust and this problem still exists today, if not worse.

1 Corinthians 6:18-20

Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

If the previous verses still didn't knock some sense into you, this one might. This verse reminds every Christian that our bodies are not ours but God's. We are merely borrowing it, thus, we should do our best to honor it. The Holy Spirit lives within us, so we must not defile it. Jesus paid a huge price for our salvation, let's not waste that.

Yes, sex before marriage is a sin. However, this doesn't mean that you no longer have a chance to enter the kingdom of God. Remember, as long as you have faith in God, there is always hope. God is always forgiving, and He will be more than willing to forgive you if you repent of your sins and abstain from sexual immorality. Do your best to resist temptation and God will be gracious and loving. Additionally, know that your patience will bear fruit once you meet your husband/wife. God has great plans for you and the wait will be worth it!

After the elections, what next for Britain?

If the two-party system is indeed dead, as both Zack Polanski and Nigel Farage claim, it’s because members of these two parties have failed, promoting ideologies that are alien to the British character, and serving their own interests, rather than those of the people.
