A couple from Tiverton, Devon insist that they have never had an argument in their 70 years of marriage, and have a solution for achieving world peace.

Ernie and Renie Hills say they always talk out their differences, and said if others did the same there would be no wars.

"I say what's my view and he says what's his view and we argue it out like that," Renie explained to the Exeter Express And Echo.

"There's no need to argue," Ernie, 97, added. "If we find anything we're going to argue over we discuss it. If people talked things over there'd be no wars on earth."

Renie, 93, said that she does not react emotionally when her husband is in a bad mood, and lets potential arguments roll off her shoulders.

"I take no notice - if he's a bit up I throw it away - throw it to the wind," she said.

The couple has survived their share of stressful situations, including a bout of tropical thrombosis during World War II, a bomb being dropped near their home, and a stint in an iron lung. Those hard times only drew the Hills closer together.

"It was as if the heavens opened up for me on that day and it's like they've never closed since," Renie said of her husband's recovery from a blood clot that developed while he was serving in Kenya.

"We're married - he's mine and I'm his and that's how we look at it. We talk things over."
