'True Detective' season 3 spoilers: Idris Elba to star in 2018 premiere of series?

"True Detective" season 3 is still holding on for dear life but rumor has it that HBO will give the green light on it soon. However, it will take time to get here, which is for the better of both the show and viewers.

"True Detective" season 2 was not received as well as the first season. Critics slammed the dialogue and the convoluted plot of the season, which starred Rachel McAdams, Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn and Taylor Kitsch.

Ever since the second season ended August last year, there have not been any talks about renewal. But there was so much discussion about how poorly made it was compared to the explosive first season.

HBO programming president Michael Lombardo admitted to The Frame that the resulting lukewarm reception of the second run of "True Detective" is something he holds himself responsible for.

"The first season of 'True Detective' was something that [writer] Nic Pizzolatto had been thinking about, gestating, for a long period of time. He's a soulful writer," Lombardo said.

"I set him up. To deliver, in a very short time frame, something that became very challenging to deliver. That's not what that show is. He had to reinvent the wheel, so to speak. Find his muse. And so I think that's what I learned from it. Don't do that anymore," he continued.

If Lombardo is determined to right his wrong, "True Detective" season 3 might happen. And since he has learned not to rush the creation process of such masterpiece, fans might have to wait for a while.

Of course, there's the question of whether or not Pizzolato is willing or is able to pen a continuation to the crime anthology drama.

Even though no official announcement has been made yet, rumors indicate that "True Detective" season 3 won't premiere until 2018. It is also believed that "Luther" star Idris Elba will be part of the new season with Pizzolato allegedly doing the directing duties.
