'The Flash' season 3 spoilers: Black Flash confirmed

Black Flash as seen on The Flash season 2The CW

While "The Flash" season 3 is introducing several new villains, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg has revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that the show may likely be featuring at least one villain from season 2: Zoom (Teddy Sears) but as Black Flash.

Fans of the series have been speculating about the Black Flash's appearance since the season 2 finale where Zoom was not killed but instead grabbed by one of the phantoms of time, essentially turning him into a new entity with a black costume and an undead appearance.

"Obviously we did that on purpose. We love working with Teddy Sears. He's such an amazing actor and amazing person, and was so much a part of the success of this show last season. There aren't any immediate plans for that, but you can't keep a good Black Flash down, so I'm sure we'll be seeing him in the future," Kreisberg explained.

As stated by Screen Rant, Kreisberg's statement means there is no confirmation yet that the character would appear in season 3 but there is a guarantee there are plans for it to happen. Given how well the series brings back characters from previous seasons, there is a high chance of Black Flash appearing toward the end of season 3.

With each season split in two halves it is possible that Black Flash will appear during the midseason finale or during the second half of season 3.

In the original comic books, Black Flash is more akin to a personification of Death although he only targets people who have access to the Speed Force. Black Flash is often seen as a being who chases after speedsters who have met their time to die or have escaped death by cheating or manipulating the Speed Force. This is often why Black Flash goes after Barry Allen in the comics.

"The Flash" season 3 premieres on Oct. 4.
