'Teen Wolf' season 5 release date, spoilers: new characters and villains expected

Teen Wolf MTV

"Teen Wolf" season 5 has finally been given an official release date. According to a report by Variety, MTV has announced that the fifth season will begin airing on June 29. The report also states that the new season will open with a two-part premiere, with the second episode airing on June 30.

The first episode is titled "Creatures of the Night" while the third episode is currently going with the working title of "Condition Terminal." Both indicate that the series will introduce several new villains, one of which is the confirmed "Sluagh."

The Sluagh is based on Irish folklore and myth, and is a creature that devours the souls of innocents. It also leaves behind some of its rotten soul within the bodies of sleeping victims. The Sluagh will be portrayed by 16-year-old Michael Lynch who was able to become a part of the show through the "Make-a-Wish" Foundation.

According to an earlier report by Zap2It, one of the main themes this season is sticking together. Most of the characters are in their senior year and they will have to choose between finishing school and fighting the evil creatures of the night.

"The characters don't know whether to focus on surviving and saving people, or to focus on getting into school at the same time because if they put too much focus on one thing, school's not gonna happen or someone's gonna die. What's more important, dying or school?" stated actor Tyler Posey, as cited by MovieNewsGuide.

He then continued to explain that the new villains are "really cool" and are not the typical villains that the characters have had to deal with in the past.

When the show returns, Tyler Hoechlin will no longer be a series regular as the actor has decided to pursue a career in movies. This will allow the show to shift its focus primarily on Posey and Dylan O'Brien. Hoechlin will still be making guest appearances so his character won't immediately be written off.
