New 'Spider-Man' movie cast rumors: Mateus Ward to be Peter Parker?

It can't get any more official than this: the "Spider-Man" franchise is already under Marvel's wings and it is not wasting any time. In the latest reports, it seems like the company already has its eyes on a teenage actor to play Peter Parker.

Badass Digest reports that 16-year-old Mateus Ward has already auditioned to be the new face of Spider-Man. And if Marvel just works a bit faster now, the new web-slinging superhero may even make it in time for the beginning of filming of "Captain America: Civil War" to make a cameo appearance.

Marvel is definitely sticking to casting a teenager now, which is what Peter Parker really is. Actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were grown men who played teenaged boys, and Marvel isn't going down this road anymore. The company wants a young face who will grow with the movie, someone who won't be in their 30s when the series is in its third or fourth installment.

Marvel reportedly hand-picked Ward and his audition was so secretive. He looks the part and he is a great actor, too. An authentically young actor to play the role will indeed bring more depth to the character and story, one that is more believable and realistic.

Meanwhile, Marvel's Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada shares his take on the new "Spider-Man" movie under the company.

When asked what's the most important thing about the next movie, he said, "The trick to making any incarnation of Spider-Man great, whether comics, animation or film is Peter Parker. Get Peter's character right and the rest falls into place."

Clearly, this is what Marvel is trying to do — casting the right Peter Parker. But seeing how casting for the Marvel movies go, "Spider-Man" is in great hands. Marvel has hit the nail on its head with Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America and Chris Hemsworth as Thor. There's no doubt that Marvel will be spot on in picking the right actor for Peter Parker/ Spider-Man.
