Mary (Adelaide Kane) will be leaving France to travel to England in "Reign" season 3.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, series showrunner Laurie McCarthy shared that the French royalties will be checking out the global situation in the upcoming season of the historical fantasy drama. According to McCarthy, the French court will inquire about the affairs that are happening in Spain, the Netherlands, as well as England, which is being lead by Queen Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten).

"They're dealing with bigger issues and yet the stories are really personal," McCarthy said. "When we get to the court of Elizabeth, I was excited to play the more intimate personal stories for Elizabeth just like we did for Mary when we were first meeting her. But we meet Elizabeth a little bit later in her role, she's a little bit more sophisticated. She's a few years older than Mary, which allows for some sexually charged court intrigue."

When she was first introduced in "Reign" season 2, Elizabeth was seen as an unforgiving villain out to destroy Mary's court. But Skarsten wants viewers to see why she was acting that way when the series returns for season 3.

"I really like how they've taken Elizabeth on this show and they've made her publicly very powerful, but it's still early in her rule, so she's incredibly insecure," the actress said.

Skarsten also described her character as a combination of Mary and Queen Catherine (Megan Follows), saying that Elizabeth could possibly experience pressure just like the queen of France but has the same level of knowledge as Catherine.

Fans of the series are looking forward to the upcoming battle of power between the three queens when "Reign" returns for its third season.

"Reign" season 3 is slated to return with the episode titled "Three Queens, Two Tigers" on Friday, Oct. 9, on The CW.
