Fox President of Entertainment, Michael Thorn, confirmed to reporters on Jan. 4 at the Television Critics Association's (TCA) winter press tour that the sixth season for "Prison Break" is happening.
According to Deadline, Thorn revealed that the new season is currently in the early stages of development. Moreover, according to TVLine, Fox Chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) Gary Newman revealed that the upcoming season will be bringing back the cast of the previous seasons. He further added that it was series creator Paul Scheuring's idea to have season 6. A month before the confirmation, "Prison Break" star Dominic Purcell teased fans about the upcoming season when he posted a photo on Instagram with the caption: "@prisonbreak #prisonbreak 6. In the works."
Since season 6 is in its early stages of development, there are still no details about what its plot will be about. However, fans are speculating that it may be connected to season 5's ending wherein Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) was granted full immunity. In the last episode of season 5, "Behind the Eyes," Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) director Roberts (Ken Tremblett) offered Scofield a position in the agency that he rejected. Fans speculate the upcoming season may be about Scofield changing his mind.
It is worth noting, however, that Scheuring appeared to have highlighted Scofield's struggle in transition to a normal life. Miller also pointed out in his interview with The Hollywood Reporter that if there will be a season 6, it will probably be about Scofield's anxiety and his turbulent transition. Furthermore, according to Digital Spy, Miller shared his pitch, which was rejected for the upcoming season, that goes like this — a psychotic billionaire named Tag will kidnap brothers Scofield and Lincoln Burrows (Purcell), forcing them to revisit their past by restaging their previous prison escapes.
As for the release date of "Prison Break" season 6, there is no news yet on when the upcoming season will premiere.
