Warning of America's eventual destruction, officials in one county in Tennessee have decided to turn to the one true power that could stop the cataclysm: God.

Blount county officials have adopted a resolution petitioning for God's mercy for the "Coming Wrath" that awaits America following the US Supreme Court's decision to legalise same-sex marriage throughout the country, a CNN report said.

County Commissioner Karen Miller recently sponsored a resolution that denounces the "lawless" Supreme Court and at the same time pleads for God to spare the county of 122,000 people when He eventually, according to the resolution, destroys America just like what He did to Sodom and Gomorrah over the same-sex marriage issue.

"We adopt this Resolution before God that He pass us by in His Coming Wrath and not destroy our County as He did Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbouring cities," Miller's proposal reads.

"We adopt this Resolution begging His favour in light of the fact that we have been forced to comply and recognise that the State of Tennessee, like so many other God-fearing States, may have fallen prey to a lawless judiciary in legalising what God and the Bible expressly forbids," the resolution states.

The resolution also urges opponents of same-sex marriage in Tennessee to fight for religious freedom.

"We the Blount County Legislature call upon all of the Officers of the State of Tennessee, the Governor, the Attorney General, and the members of the Tennessee Legislature, to join us, and utilise all authority within their power to protect Natural Marriage, from lawless court opinions."

The resolution also denounces the Supreme Court, accusing federal judges of using "power not delegated to them" and stepping on states' rights. "It is high time that the Court be so reminded" that it's there to judge, not legislate, the resolution states.

A similar protest against the Supreme Court's ruling on same-sex marriage is also brewing in Alabama.

According to the WMD online news site, the state is set to defy the US Supreme Court's recognition of same-sex marriage more than three months after "five lawyers" defied the wishes of a majority of voters in dozens of states.
