Playstation 4 availability: Sony CEO states additional PS4 shipments will be sent out before Christmas

The Playstation 4 stock is expected to meet consumer demands, according to Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Jack Tretton.

In a podcast interview with the official U.S. Playstation Blog on Dec. 13, Tretton told fans that its latest PS4 console will be available in time for Christmas.

Tretton confirmed that Sony will be sending additional shipments of the consoles until Christmas, promising great supplies between the holidays and March 2014. He also said the company is working daily to manufacture as many consoles as possible to meet demands.

He also said the company did not artificially create shortage of the consoles. "I get asked a lot if we've created an artificial shortage in order to create a feeding frenzy, and the answer is no. We have competition out there and there are lots of things that people can spend money on. The holidays only come around once a year, so that's when we really want to take advantage of the market opportunity."

Sony has sold over 2 million Playstation 4 units worldwide since its launch in November. One million units were sold in North America alone on the first day of launch. "We put a ton of machines out there – we're at over 2.1 million worldwide now – but we are a global company.. that means that we're now in 32 countries and there are a lot of mouths to feed."

Last week, Amazon was replenished with 12,000 units but the stock sold out in less than half hour of it being made available online.
