'Outlander' season 3 closely follows the book, author Diana Gabaldon says

When Starz TV's period drama series "Outlander" returns for its third season, fans of the adaptation can expect it to follow Diana Gabaldon's novel closely.

A curious fan was bold enough to ask Gabaldon for confirmation about the upcoming installment of "Outlander" on Twitter. Fortunately for the fan, the author responded. The fan wrote, "Hearing that Season 3 is very close to book." Gabaldon then retweeted what she wrote, and added, "Yes, it is."

Although season 3 of "Outlander" is expected to remain faithful to the books, not everything will make it to the adaptation, as it is impossible. One of the changes viewers will see is the opening scene of the season. Reports say that instead of starting with Jamie's (Sam Heughan) search for his lost memories, the installment will open with the Battle of Culloden wherein he faces Black Jack (Tobias Menzies).

The third season will pick up where the previous season left off. Claire (Caitriona Balfe) will be centuries apart from Jamie. She will return to 1948, and give birth to Jamie's child. Jamie, on the other hand, will be in the 18th century facing the consequences of the Battle of Culloden.

"Outlander" season 3 will follow fan favorite characters Lord John Grey (David Berry) and Fergus (Cesar Domboy). However, next season, viewers will see their grown-up versions. The upcoming season will also introduce Joe Abernathy (Wil Johnson) and Mr. Willoughby (Gary Young).

Furthermore, Northern Inuits are currently being trained for the appearance of the hybrid wolf named Rollo. The wolf, however, will not make a debut this season. Rollo is expected to make his first appearance in the fourth installment of the series. "The dog will play a key part in the adventure that lies ahead," a spokesperson from Starz told Entertainment Weekly.

"Outlander" season 3 is slated to premiere in September on Starz TV, and the network has yet to release an exact release date. More updates should arrive soon.
