Fans will finally know whether or not Delphine (Evelyn Brochu) survived that fatal gun shot when BBC's "Orphan Black" returns for its fourth season next year.
After her altercation with an unidentified gunman, it was quite obvious that Brochu's character has finished her run for the science fiction series. Viewers think her death was a real possibility, considering that Paul (Dylan Bruce) was also killed off on the show.
In an interview with TV Line, executive producers John Fawcett and Graeme Manson hinted of Delphine's fate after getting shot in the parking lot last season finale and her ultimate sacrifice for the clone Cosima (Tatiana Maslany).
"Her journey this season stemmed from her promise to Cosima in the last season. To me, that's a true journey of love and heroism and sacrifice," Manson said.
The executive producers, however, remained vague on whether Delphine would be returning for the next season. Fawcett also gave a cryptic response to Entertainment Weekly, preferring to focus on the fans' reaction to the shocking event.
According to him, the story that they have conceptualized for Delphine has always been "a tragic love story." And while it was certainly "a horrible thing" to happen, her sacrifice was necessary for Cosima's story and in "going forward in subsequent seasons."
The showrunner took the time to praise Bronchu for having an amazing season. As for the fans, he said that the whole team appreciated that they have been so bothered by the twist. But just like any story, "Orphan Black" also has some surprising tricks up its sleeves.
"It's great — I love that you're all up in arms about it. It's a mystery, guys. There's a reason why there's a mystery."
Meanwhile, according to the Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming installment of the sci-fi series would also feature the backstory of Kira (Skyler Wexler). The executive producers reportedly revealed that viewers would be getting some much needed answers about the character, as the most human part about her "could not really be explained by science."
