When the Moto 360 and the LG G Watch R were let loose in the not-so unexplored wearable ground, they ruled the turf easily and distinctly. Both were welcomed with cordial reviews and the wearables were pitted to be each other's biggest competition. Timepieces were changed by time itself, and in the age where traditional watches are given major techno makeovers, LG and Motorola did an outstanding job with the task.
These Android Wear devices both stuck with the classic. The classic dial from traditional watches was transformed into a power button for both of the new-fangled wristwatches. Straps are swappable, too. Motorola offers stainless steel alternatives to the wearable's original leather strap. LG users can change the default strap of the G Watch R, too.
Both flaunt a round watch face caked with Corning Gorilla glass 3 and subtle futuristic features. G Watch R boasts a 1.3-inch full circle Plastic-OLED display that delivers a 320 x 320 pixel resolution and 246 ppi pixel density. The Moto 360 comes with a 1.56-inch backlit round LCD display. There is a sliver at the bottom of the smartwatch's screen, for the ambient light sensor and display connectors to be accommodated. In turn, it renders a 320 x 290 screen resolution and a 205 ppi pixel density.
The LG wearable is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 clocked in at 1.2 GHz. The Moto 360 is loaded with a Texas Instrument OMAP 3. They both have 4 GB memory and a 512 MB RAM. The game changer here is Motorola's choice of processor, which easily allows the LG wearable to get the upper hand.
Both have the essential fitness-tracking sensors. There is the much-needed heart rate monitor that goes hand in hand with the pedometer so wearers of the devices can have their steps and distance monitored while running or jogging. Android Wear relies hugely on voice prompts, which allow wearers to do tasks by uttering a command that starts with "Okay, Google" and easily send e-mails and pre-loaded messages or check on the day's weather. The Android watches are also water-resistant. Submerging them in water a meter deep for half an hour won't do any harm.
Battery life in the wearable showground is impressive. With the LG G Watch R's 410 mAh battery, users can use it for two days. Moto 360 has a 320 mAh unit that can last for a day. Both are compatible with Android devices that run Android 4.3 or higher. The LG G Watch R is priced at $260 and the Moto 360 is sold for $249.99.
