'Mario Kart 8' DLC pack 2 release date: characters, tracks, and vehicles details

Mario Kart 8 Animal Crossing DLCNintendo

A new DLC pack for the Wii-U title "Mario Kart 8" is scheduled for an April 23 release, according to a report from IGN.

The new DLC pack contains the "Animal Crossing x Mario Kart" additions. Players will get three new characters, four vehicles, and eight new tracks to race on.

Of the three characters, two come from Nintendo's "Animal Crossing" franchise: Villager and Isabelle. The other character is Dry Bowser. The vehicles are the Bone Rattler (bike), City Tripper (bike), P-Wing (kart), and the Streetle (kart).

The "Animal Crossing" track is a new special track that changes season each time it is played. Big Blue is a "Mario Kart" remaster of an "F-Zero" race track. The Wild Woods track takes players inside a large tree, racing up and down its trunk as they avoid Toads and Shy Guys, while the Super Bell Subway track forces players to race while avoiding trains.

The other four tracks — Baby Park, Cheese Land, Koopa City, and Ribbon Road — are all remasters from previous games in the "Mario Kart" series. Baby Park comes from "Mario Kart: Double Dash" on the Gamecube, Cheese Land and Ribbon Road both come from "Mario Kart Super Circuit" on the GBA while Koopa City comes from "Mario Kart DS."

The DLC pack also comes with a free new update. The patch will introduce 200cc racing. It will be the fastest type of racing in the series and this is also the first time it will be in any "Mario Kart" to date. Previous to this update, the fastest race type was 150cc.

Nine Mii racing suits will also be made available via amiibo. These will include: Wario, Bowser, Pac-Man, Sonic, Olimar, Toad, Mega Man, Rosalina, and Villager.

U.S. players can download the "Animal Crossing" DLC with the free update for $7 or get a bundle that includes the previous "Legend of Zelda" DLC pack for just $11.99. The DLC pack can be acquired directly from the Nintendo eShop.
