"Marco Polo" season 2 ended with a cliffhanger, and the fate of Kublai Khan (Benedict Wong) was left uncertain. Unfortunately, fans may never get to see whether he survived or not as there are now rumors that Wong has signed on a different show, and this may cause Netflix to cancel the series.

As stated in a report from iTech Post, Wong may have decided to sign on for a different show, given how "Marco Polo" season 3 has not been greenlit yet. His schedule may force "Marco Polo" to be delayed or cancelled altogether, particularly since the fate of Kublai Khan is meant to be a key part of season 3.

The show may still move forward given how it is listed as one of the best original shows on Netflix, as per Geek.com, along with "Stranger Things," "Narcos," and "House of Cards." The show's popularity may indicate that it is still rated high enough for Netflix to renew it for another season.

iTech Post's report does point out that the show is one of the most expensive shows, and the immense budget could also be the reason why the show has not been renewed yet.

However, series creator John Fusco continues to post images related to the show on Twitter, indicating that he is still moving forward with the third season. Back in July, he posted a quote from the show where it was teased that the series was not yet done. Most recently, he posted a tweet celebrating the casting of Claudia S. Kim as Khutulun.

Fans will recall that Netflix does not reveal the ratings and performance of their shows, and it can take months before they announce a show's renewal. It took several months before "Daredevil" and "Sense8" were announced to have additional seasons, and it may be the same case for "Marco Polo" season 3.
