'Longmire' season 5: Who cut short Walt and Donna Sue's tête-à-tête?

Fans of "Longmire" cannot wait for the crime drama series to return for season 5 and clear up all the cliffhangers of the previous installment. One scene that particularly drew frustration was the moment an unknown individual barged in the romantic tête-à-tête between Walt Longmire (Robert Taylor) and Donna Sue Monahan (Ally Walker).

Speculations on the identity of the intruder have been making rounds in social media. According to Christian Post, there are several possibilities on who the person could be. Many fans feel that the one who cut off Walt and Donna Sue's special night is Walker Browning (Callum Keith Renni), as the last time viewers saw him was when he got out of his hospital bed. He certainly has the motive to hurt Walt, but as the website suggests, there is the question on how he found out where the sheriff lives. A person intent on getting revenge, however, can uncover even the most trivial detail about his nemesis, so it is entirely possible Walker is the one.

Other conjectures posit that the interloper is Jacob Nighthorse (A Martinez), as he was seen always quarreling with Walt. But their skirmishes were usually so petty, it would be difficult to prove that Jacob had a good reason to kill the other man. Other suspects include Zachary (Barry Sloane), Sam Poteet (Hank Cheyne), and even the shadowy individual who torched the van in one of the episodes in season 4.

Meanwhile, writer Tony Tost has been active in giving updates about the series on his Twitter account, even replying to several comments of the fans regarding the upcoming season. When one tweeted that he would stop watching the series after reading a spoiler that season 5 would be "all gloom, doom and pain," Tost clarified in a post that there have been no discussion regarding the installment being "darker and more violent."

Tost likewise addressed a fan's message that people would believe anything they read on the Internet, even if the sources were outdated. The writer agreed, stating that he has received "bizarre, imaginary" articles about "Longmire."

Netflix has yet to announce when "Longmire" season 5 will return, but it is speculated to air in the latter part of 2016.
