iPad Air 2 release date: Gold variant to launch on Oct. 21?

Latest rumors surrounding the upcoming iPad Air 2 claim that the tablet will be launched on Oct. 21 and will be available in gold variant.

Bloomberg reported that Apple will add another color to its current line of iPads, and the tablet will be getting a Midas Touch since it will include a gold variant to the current space gray and silver color options.

The reason behind the addition of another color of iPad is to boost the sales of the tablet, as reports revealed that the tablet is suffering a decline in shipments for iPad Air, which was launched in October 2013.

Why gold? As it seems, the iPad follows the color options of the iPhone 5S, which is reported to have raked in high sales. Apple plans to attract more consumers, especially those who bought the gold iPhone 5S or iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

This is not the first time that iPad has been rumored to be available in gold version. After the announcement of iPhone 5S last year, it was thought that the iPad will follow the color variants of the Apple smartphones.

Meanwhile, latest reports claim that the iPad Air 2 release date is set on Oct. 21. This is backed up by the previous release of the device as last year's iPad was announced on Oct. 22. The iPad Air 2 will most likely be joined by iPad Mini 3 and OS X Yosemite as well as a slew of rumored devices such as Macbook Pro, MacBook Air with Retina Display, iPod Touch 6th Generation, and Smart HDTV.

Some of the features that will most probably appear on the new generation of iPad Air are A8 processor, M8 graphics chipset, iOS 8, and Touch ID fingerprint sensor. The new features announced at the iPhone event, such as iHealth, Apple Pay and iCloud Integration, are expected to be seen in the new iPad as well.

Apple is expected to release invitations next week for the press event.
