'The Incredibles 2' not a commentary on modern superhero movies, director to mix old and new ideas

The Incredibles Disney/Pixar

It's been a little over a decade since director/ screenwriter Brad Bird, along with DIsney and Pixar, released "The Incredibles." In that time, the superhero movie genre had exploded into popularity with the likes of "The Dark Knight," "The Avengers" and "X-Men: Days of Future Past." According to a report from Cinema Blend, however, "The Incredibles 2" won't serve as a commentary on this trend.

"I don't think that kind of idea stays interesting for very long. You can kind of get a cheap laugh for the moment. I think you want to go longer range than that," Bird told Cinema Blend. "For me, the interesting thing was never the superhero part of it. It was more the family dynamic, and how do superhero things play into that."

Bird continued to explain that the story he is developing will introduce something that "isn't like anything else" and was also described as "intriguing."

According to a report from the Collider, the story will be an amalgamation of old and new concepts. The director explained that he already has pages of the story done and that he is trying to implement some of the concepts that did not make it into the first "Incredibles" film.

This was stated back before Bird's "Tomorrowland," came out and it was also when he confirmed that "The Incredibles 2" would be his next project following the sci-fi flick starring George Clooney. "Tomorrowland" came and went to, unfortunately, average reviews and a collosal failure at the box office, but that just means Bird will have to put extra effort in "The Incredibles 2."

No official release date has been given out at the time of writing but according to the report from Cinema Blend, it is very likely that Disney will announce a release date during the D23 Expo scheduled this August. The D23 Expo is also where Marvel is expected to make most of its big announcements after they pulled out of this year's Comic-Con.
