Season 6 is the final season for "Glee" and the team behind it is making sure that they make an unforgettable exit. "Glee" is tackling one controversial social issue after another. Consider it a risk for Fox, but either way, the show will make a big statement when the series goes off the air. 

In the last episode, Brittany and Santana got engaged. While their friends have always been supportive, not everyone is. Carter Matt reports that in the episode "What the World Needs Now," to air on Feb. 6, Britanny and Santana will deal with problems with their families not agreeing to the marriage. 

The official synopsis reads: "Brittany and Santana have some family convincing to do. Meanwhile, during a Burt Bacharach tribute week, Mercedes returns to Ohio to convince Rachel to pursue her Broadway dreams." 

Carter Matt also speculates that the problem may be coming from Britanny's side of the family. While her mom, played by Gloria Estefan, agrees with the relationship, her grandmother does not. 

Meanwhile, Dot Marie Jones, who plays Beiste is also taking a huge role this season. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jones revealed how they will tackle the issue of pre-operative transsexuals further and how it was included in the storyline. 

Jones shared that she was actually surprised that show creator Ryan Murphy came up with this. Her ultimate reaction was that she "didn't want to let anybody down." She reckons, "it's just another vehicle to reach another group of people who are learning to be OK in your body." 

Due to the controversy that this topic can attract, does Jones believe that this is the right time to take on this issue on broadcast TV? She simply said, "Like it or not, it's real life." 

Jones also admitted that there is a certain responsibility attached to taking on such a role, particularly with the transgender community. 

"I feel like with Beiste, since I came on in season two, all she has ever wanted is to be accepted for who she was and now who he is. I've always said words are pretty powerful and you have to be careful how you use them. The kids look up to characters on Glee as role models and I take it as a big responsibility because I want it to come across as accepting," she shared. 

While "Glee" may want to end the season with a huge bang, hopefully, their viewers get more to their stories. As for Jones, she only wishes for the viewers to watch with "an open heart, and come away with a full heart."

"Glee" airs an all-new episode on Jan. 23 on FOX.
