Christian Solidarity Worldwide To Hold A Day of Prayer for Burma

|TOP|On the 11th March Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) will join with other Christian groups in London to hold a day of prayer for Burma.

The event will be part of a global prayer initiative, and will be attended by speakers from the Karen, Chin and Kachin ethnic groups that will share prayer topics. Jonathan Aitken will also be there, and will lead devotions.

Also speaking will be Guy Horton, a human rights campaigner who presented a report called “Dying Alive” on the “slow genocide” of ethnic groups.

Prayer topics at the event will include: support for the work to bring Burma before the UN Security Council, and safety for the Burmese people from the attacks of the Burmese Army.

|AD|Christian Solidarity Worldwide, Karen Aid, the Karen Action Group and the Committee for Internally Displaced People, have all come together to organise the Day of Prayer for the country.

The Chief Executive of CSW, Mervyn Thomas said: “Even as CSW campaigns for change in the political sphere, we are fully aware we must also pray for the people of Burma. The ongoing human rights abuses in Burma must drive us to our knees. I would urge as many as possible to join us for the Day of Prayer for Burma.”

Since 1962 Burma has been a military dictatorship. It is estimated that there are one million internally displaced people in Burma and that the Burmese Army kills 10,000 people every year, reports CSW.

The Day of Prayer will be on 11th March, from 10am to 4pm at St Paul’s Church, Robert Adam Street, London W1H 3HW. Admission is free.
