Will Naruto's son Boruto star in his own series soon?

During the 2015 New York Comic Con last weekend, original manga creator Masashi Kishimoto talked about the recently released "Boruto: Naruto the Movie" and his plans for the franchise after the manga series ended in November 2014.

Kishimoto revealed that he never expected that "Boruto: Naruto the Movie" will experience this kind of success. He even imagined that it will get canned after the 10^th week of its release.

As it turns out, the latest "Naruto" film was hailed as the highest grossing installment in the entire franchise. It grossed $5.46 million just three days after its premiere date, beating the records set by "The Last: Naruto the Movie," which was released in 2014.

"Boruto: Naruto the Movie" centers on how Naruto's son Boruto perceived his father, who is known in the anime and manga series as devil-may-care, fun-loving student and loyal friend. But in Boruto's eyes, Naruto is a bad father.

Fans of the long-running manga and anime franchise surely captured the hearts of its loyal fans, who have known Naruto since his young, carefree days. But because of the success of the film, fans are expecting to see a new series that will focus on Boruto.

Meanwhile, Kishimoto earlier told Anime News Network that he already has an idea about what his next project will be after he got his much needed rest.

"I'm thinking of writing a science-fiction work. I've already finalized the character designs. I think the protagonist is one that hasn't been seen before in manga, and while it's me saying it, I think that the character is done very well," Kishimoto said.

However, he also said that his next project may not be a weekly series like "Naruto," since working on his masterpiece for 15 years put a strain on his health.
