The Baptist World Alliance (BWA) has appointed a new Associate Director of Communications. Rev Eron M. Henry, an editor, pastor and lecturer from Jamaica will take up the role officially from Jan. 9th, 2006.

|PIC1|Henry will step into his new role to manage all aspects of the communication programs of the BWA, including design and management.

In addition the new Associate Director will be involved in deep consultations with Alliance Executive staff regarding Communications plans for the BWA. Other tasks will involve directing all print and online media including the BWA website, e-newsletters, the Baptist World, as well as the organisation’s quarterly publications and the BWA news. Essentially Henry will be acting as a direct link to all media.

The BWA Advancement Team, headed by Ron Harris will also welcome Henry into its line-up.

Henry has more than 18 years experience in religious and secular media, commencing his career in 1987 as a weekly news columnist for the Daily Gleaner newspaper in Jamaica, West Indies.

At present, Henry is heading up the Baptist Union Media Commission, which takes direct responsibility for the denomination’s quarterly newspaper the ‘Jamaica Baptist Reporter’. In addition to this, the new Director of Communications is running two weekly radio programs, ‘Christ for Today’ and ‘Youth Sounds’, and is the editor of the website, the ‘Caribbean Reporter’.|TOP|

A hugely diverse past has also seen Henry as the news analyst with Radio Jamaica for a night-time talk show.

Adding to his already packed list of qualifications, Henry has also been the director of the e-publishing program at the Montego Bay Community College, and has also served as Chairman of the Board of Management of the William Knibb Memorial High School, a Baptist school, with more than 1200 students.”

Henry is an ordained minister in the Jamaica Baptist Union, and since 1998 has been the pastor of the Falmouth Circuit of Baptist Churches.

|ADAfter receiving his Masters in Journalism from Temple University in the US, he received a special journalism award for academic achievement. Henry holds both a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Honors) in Theology from the University of the West Indies, and a Diploma in Ministerial Studies from the United Theological College of the West Indies, both located in Kingston, Jamaica.

After hearing of his appointment, Henry said, “Working with the Baptist World Alliance will be my greatest delight.”

The BWA General Secretary, Denton Lotz said, “It is with enthusiasm that we appoint Eron Henry to this position. He possesses the skills and experience for which we have been looking. The Committee felt that the Lord has led us to Henry. We are thankful and pray God’s blessings upon Henry as he moves to the Washington office in January, 2006.”

Karl Johnson, General Secretary of the Jamaica Baptist Union revealed his great support and enthusiasm over the new appointment. He said, “Jamaica would miss him but Baptists in Jamaica are pleased to offer him to the larger world of Baptists.”
