3 things all married Christian couples need every now and then

"Let marriage be held in honor among all..." (Hebrews 13:4)

Marriage is very important. Every married couple should give all that they have to make their marriage into how God wanted it to be: a union that shows the character and love of Christ.

Many Christian couples want their marriages to be how God wanted it to be. Christian husbands and wives want to be Christ-like in their treatment of their spouses, in response to the love of God Himself. Ephesians 5:31-33 tells us thus,

""Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh." This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband."

Before we can get to that point, however, we will need to give some love and effort to make it happen. With God's help and a lot of love for our respective spouse, we will be able to love each other in a Christ-like way.

Love each other

Friends, here are a few things that will help in the path to being a Christ-like spouse. All Christian husbands and wives need these things every now and then, and making time (or spending for them) will prove beneficial and very helpful.

If you want to be a Christ-like lover to your spouse, I encourage you to include these in your calendar.

1) Personal time with God daily

Every husband or wife who desires to be Christ-like must set aside a specific time to pray, worship, and read the Bible daily. This is a very important thing to do.

Christ was very intimate with His Father. Thankfully, we can also become intimate with God through Christ Jesus. And because God loves us and is Father to us, He Himself will draw us closer to Him as we seek Him.

2) A time to worship God together with your spouse

Aside from spending alone time with God in prayer, worship and Bible-reading, Christian couples will also do well to spend time together doing the same thing: worshipping together, praying with and for each other, and sharing insights and revelation coming from the Word of God.

There's no better marriage "glue" than the love of God. He brought us and our spouses to each other, and He is able to keep us together no matter what we go through, as we follow Him.

3) Time-off from other things to focus on the marriage

Lastly, all Christian couples should decide to take vacations together. And by vacations, I mean taking time off from work and other responsibilities just to enjoy one another.

In marriage, husbands and wives both have what we call a "love tank" that needs to be refilled by a spouse's love.

Our love tanks are slowly emptied by life's issues and problems, especially marital problems. They are then refilled by doing things motivated by and planned in love.

Spending good quality time with each other, for example, is one thing that can refill the love tank. Doing favors such as helping in the household chores or rubbing your spouse's feet after a hard day's work. Going somewhere nice just the two of you for the day will really help as well.

Plan your vacations. Spend time with your spouse with the intention of knowing her and treating her better. If you can afford it, don't hesitate to spend on a trip to a place where the two of you can just rest.

As an added bonus, you can go on a vacation or a spiritual retreat with the specific intention to seek God together. This is even better.
