X Factor finalist says God put his life in perspective

X Factor finalist, Rhydian Roberts, has told Premier Christian Radio's Battle & Taylor show that Jesus Christ Superstar was integral to his conversion.

"When I was 19 I was pretty low, I needed something extra. I tried to find something with idols, but they didn't satisfy me," he said on Saturday's show.

"I was in Jesus Christ Superstar at university and I was playing Pontius Pilot. I was brushing up on the character and I thought I'd watch the 1974 video.

"I watched it by myself and was in tears at the end, I was completely moved by the story of Jesus Christ. When he was on the cross and the song Gethsemane was playing, I couldn't believe the power of it and just asked Him into my life."

Rhydian, who this year is set to star in the musical, The War of the Worlds-Alive on Stage!, told presenters Battle and Taylor how it can be difficult being a Christian in the music industry.

"It was the best decision I ever made, it doesn't make life easy, but it's definitely put things into perspective. It's a weird kind of balance, my faith with a career as a recording artist.

"There are always temptations, success and money. Perhaps you think, 'I need to maintain that for identity purposes and profile', and then you think 'is that really important, is that what God wants?'"
