God's Word is so precious and powerful that we can't afford to live without it. The Lord Jesus Himself said that, "People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God." (Matthew 4:4)

We could live a life that's fun, but unless we live according to the Word of God, we haven't lived yet.

Knowing this, we must not let the Word of God depart from our mouth, or not be in our thoughts.

Here's what the Lord told Joshua:

"Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." (Joshua 1:7-9)

Based on what the Lord said, here are a few reasons why we shouldn't let the Word depart from us.

1. We Will Prosper Everywhere We Go as Long as the Word Is in Us

Bringing a Bible with us anywhere we go won't work if we don't read it, believe it, and live by it. God wants His Word to be the content of our thoughts and conversations, so that we will carefully obey it. When we do, prosperity is a given.

To be prosperous means "flourishing." Many equate the term to material riches, but God's is more holistic: it means having a blessed, continually maturing life in Christ.

2. We Will Surely Have Success When We Live by the Word

Success can be defined as having less failures. When we allow God's Word to permeate and dictate how we live our lives, we will surely live the way God intended us to: more than a conqueror in Christ. No matter what we face, the Word of God encourages us and reminds us that God is with us always.

3. It Will Keep Us From Sin and Wrongdoing

Obeying God's Word keeps us away from sin and other ungodly acts. Consider what the psalmist said in Psalm 119:9-11.

"How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word. I have tried hard to find you— don't let me wander from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you."

If we don't live by God's Word, we will surely live a life that's not pleasing to the Lord.
