According to recent speculations, Ubisoft will be skipping one of its major franchise titles in favor of releasing a sequel for another.

In a report by Kotaku, it was mentioned that Ubisoft will be taking a break from its annual outing of "Assassin's Creed" and will instead release the next installment after "Assassin's Creed: Syndicate" next year. The industry follower said that while Ubsioft has yet to come out with a statement, a source familiar with the company's future plans and schedules already spilled the beans.

However, the supposed news doesn't mean that there will be no "Assassin's Creed" presence for this year. Although a major title is not in the schedule, two spinoff titles are still set to come out in the first quarter this year, and before the year ends, fans will get to see the major motion picture based on the series starring Michael Fassbender.

Meanwhile, VideoGamer said that although there will be no major "Assassin's Creed" title set for release this year, Ubisoft will still make the headlines with another franchise installment. According to the report, the publisher will be surprising fans with a treat –- apparently, "Watch Dogs 2" is ready for release by autumn.

Although Ubisoft is yet to make a sequel official, subtle hints and teases from the publisher already made speculations float online. Early last year, information might have been inadvertently confirmed by an Ubisoft employee in their online profile.

Meanwhile, Game Debate reported that if it is up to Ubisoft Montreal creative director Jonathan Morin, "Watch Dogs" will be a franchise and they will have big plans for its sequel.

The industry follower quoted Morin as saying, "We're at that stage now. We're trying crazy stuff. We're trying not to fall into that trap of, 'Oh we've tried that in the past, it's not going to work'."
