"Vikings" made a big splash at this year's San Diego Comic-Con by showing off a brand new trailer for season 4 while also giving out small hints of what fans can expect from the show. One of the biggest reveals is that the story will start to branch out and focus on Ragnar's children.

According to a report from Design and Trend, series creator Michael Hirst stated that "Vikings" is not just about the story of Ragnar Lothbrok but about Vikings in general. The fourth season will showcase Ragnar at the "doorsteps of death" and the character will spend time contemplating death and what it would be like to die.

If Ragnar dies, the show won't end. Hirst explained that in Viking legends and history, Ragnar's children became as famous if not more so than their father. The series creator stated that season 4 would begin to delve into the legend of Bjorn as well as Ivor the Boneless, another of Ragnar's famous offspring.

The report cites that England and King Ecbert will still play an important part in season 4 but there is no doubt that the Vikings will return to Paris, the city they just raided back in season 3. It is possible that Ragnar and his followers will fight a war against Ragnar's brother Rollo who agreed to marry Princess Gisla, daughter of Emperor Charles.

During the Comic-Con panel, Hirst and the cast of the show, including Travis Fimmel and Katheryn Winnick, stated that there will be new locations and characters such as Yidu, a Chinese slave to be played by Dianne Doan.

The trailer also reveals that Princess Aslaug will start contemplating ruling Kattegat while Ragnar is haunted by visions of Athelstan, who was murdered by Floki. The trailer reveals that Floki will be arrested for this crime, an act which might split the Vikings into different factions. This might be the prologue that will begin Bjorn's journey as a leader.

"Vikings" season 4 premieres in early 2016.
