Comedienne Joan Rivers remains in critical condition in a New York hospital after going into cardiac arrest last wek.

Rivers' daughter, Melissa, told reporters that her mother is on life support, and encouraged fans of the "Fashion Police" star to pray.

"My mother would be so touched by the tributes and prayers that we have received from around the world," Melissa told E! on Friday. "Her condition remains serious but she is receiving the best treatment and care possible. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts as we pray for her recovery."

Fans and fellow celebrities have continually expressed support and prayer for the comedy icon.

"Praying for Joan Rivers and Mel Rivers," Rivers' "Fashion Police" co-star, Giuliana Rancic, tweeted. "Even though Joan's the strongest woman I know, every single prayer counts. I love you, Joan."

Singer and television personality Kelly Osbourne also tweeted prayers for the 81-year-old.

"4 the first time in years I got down on my knees & prayed tonight!" Osbourne wrote. "I encourage U 2 do the same 4 Joan Rivers my grandma!"

Osbourne is also a member of the "Fashion Police" cast.

Rivers was undergoing minor throat surgery at Yorkville Endoscopy in Manhattan on Thursday when the medical emergency occurred. E! News reported that Rivers was having her vocal cords examined.

During the procedure, Rivers stopped breathing, and clinic staff called 911. She was rushed to Mount Sinai, and was placed in a medically-induced coma.

Just hours before the procedure, Rivers was performing stand up at the Laurie Beechman Theatre, and joked about her age and mortality."She did a joke onstage, she goes, 'I'm 81 — I could go at any moment,'" an audience member, Shade Rupe, recounted.

"'I could fall over right here and you all could say, 'I was there!'"

"She was so on," Rupe continued. "If you had me guess her age, I'd say she was in her 50s. She didn't miss a step, she didn't go ditzy, she didn't forget anything and her timing was amazing."
