"Star Trek Beyond" is getting a hand from a past footballer to bulk up its cast. Apparently, former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti scored a cameo appearance in the upcoming movie, whose filming recently wrapped up.

According to Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport (via iDigital Times), Ancelotti himself was the one to reveal about his cameo role in the newest installment of the sci-fi saga and that his "friendship with Zoe Saldana" (the actress plays the role of Uhura in the film) made this happen. He shot the scene in Vancouver.

"I play the part of a scientist who has to examine an alien," Ancelotti revealed in the interview with the Italian newspaper, as picked up by Football Italia. "It was good, I pretended it was [Madrid superstar] Cristiano Ronaldo in front of me," the football legend quipped.

To "Star Trek" fans that are also football buffs, this news equates to a big positive surprise while it will come as confusing to the rest. The casting is yet to be made official by the crew behind the movie. Nonetheless, media outlets think it is fun seeing Ancelotti spend his time off the field rather very wisely and certainly entertainingly.

In other "Star Trek Beyond" news, Simon Pegg, who wrote the script and also stars in the upcoming intergalactic flick, teased that the movie will also be one in celebrating the golden years of the franchise, which takes place next year. Pegg said they slotted in "genuine 50th Anniversary ideas" in the movie.

In an interview with Tucson, Pegg, who had a hand with Doug Jung in completing the script for the movie, said that these ideas allowed them to inject details "about what's happening in our world and the Star Trek world and try to make it a bit thoughtful too."

"Star Trek Beyond" will hit the silver screen on July 22, 2016, just in time for its 50th anniversary.
