Sony has recently unveiled a new entry to its Xperia XZ lineup, the XZ2 Premium. The latest smartphone is considered the most advanced Xperia flagship from Sony yet, although it shares a few similarities with the first two Xperia XZ2 handsets released this year. Some of the noticeable upgrades featured in the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium include 4K display with HDR support, and a powerful dual-lens rear camera.

Sony first introduced the new Xperia XZ2 series at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 in February, wherein the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact were announced. This time around, the Japanese multinational tech giant has unveiled the Xperia XZ2 Premium, boasting more powerful features than the previous XZ2 entries.

First and foremost, the XZ2 Premium sports a dual camera setup at the back, unlike the regular XZ2 and XZ2 Compact that only use a single-lens rear snapper.

Still, there are similarities between the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium and the regular variants, including the new curved-edge display that is an improvement over the usual sharp and blocky edges of the Xperia design. The XZ2 Premium also has a rear-positioned fingerprint reader to make more space for the front screen panel. However, the premium smartphone has yet to achieve an all-screen front view because of its sizeable bezels.

The Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium also has the latest high-end octa-core mobile chipset from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 845, along with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The phone memory can be further expanded to 400GB with the use of a microSD card.

The handset is packed with 3,540mAh non-removable battery that features Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging from Qualcomm. The Xperia XZ2 Premium also allows Qi wireless charging, thanks to its Gorilla Glass 5 protective cover. The device has IP65/IP68 water-resistant rating.

Aside from the dual camera, the Sony Xperia XZ2 also highlights a 5.8-inch 4K TRILUMINOUS display with up to 3,840x2,160 screen resolution. The screen uses an X-Reality engine, and is capable of supporting HDR output.

The Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium will hit shelves this summer in Chrome Black and Chrome Silver variants. The handset will run the Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.
