Samsung Galaxy S3 not getting Android 5.0 Lollipop update?

Samsung Galaxy S3

With news that some Samsung devices like the Galaxy Note 4, Note 3, and S5 have already started receiving the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS, there is a remote possibility that the Galaxy S3 will get the said mobile software.

There is an unwritten rule that handsets that are at least two years old are placed in the back burner when it comes to OS updates. The Galaxy S3 and S4 were released in May 2012 and March 2013, respectively. Although the two Galaxy S handsets were popular during their time, it makes people doubt that the two Samsung smartphones will receive the latest Android Lollipop.

However, there is news that Samsung's Galaxy S4 will receive the new Android software. Reports state that the OS update is currently rolling out in India and Russia after the ROM build of the firmware was spotted. The upgrade will reportedly be released in the United States soon.

Meanwhile, Samsung is still mum on whether or not the Galaxy S3 will receive the software. However, there is extreme consideration as the S3 is Samsung's most popular handset and started the heydays of the company.

Samsung users are surprised that the company is already rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop at the same time as other companies like HTC, LG, and Motorola since the South Korean company has a track record of trailing behind other OEMs.

At any rate, the largest Android update delivers a wide array of changes, including:

  • Material Design UI
  • TouchWiz improvements
  • New Battery Power Saver software
  • Improved notifications
  • Lock screen notifications control
  • Priority Mode
  • Intelligent notifications ranking
  • Android Smart lock
  • Multiple Users support
  • Guest User
  • Screen Pinning
  • New toggles for the Quick Settings menu

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Note series, specifically the Note 3 and Note 4, started receiving the latest Android update. The Note 2 is reported to also get the update soon.
