Samsung Galaxy S9 Active release date, specs news: Rugged premium smartphone with 4,000mAh battery

After the launch of the Galaxy S9 smartphone at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018, the rumors are rife that Samsung is about to present a sturdier version of its flagship device very soon. A leaked specs list of the Samsung Galaxy S9 Active has surfaced online, revealing that the handset will boast a whopping 4,000mAh battery, much bigger than that of the S9 Plus.

It looks like the South Korean tech firm will continue its tradition of releasing an "active" variant of its current Galaxy S series lineup, which will feature a more robust build for a user that is usually on the go. The Samsung Galaxy S9 Active will be a rugged handset that can withstand drops or pressure to the device.

The leak shows a new Samsung smartphone with model number SM-G893. By looking at the model number, some people identified this device as the Samsung Galaxy S9 Active, knowing that the model number of the Galaxy S7 Active released in 2016 is SM-G891. Also, the model number of the Galaxy S8 Active is SM-G892.

The highlight of the Samsung Galaxy S9 Active leak is the massive 4,000mAh battery cell of the handset, which is considerably larger than the Galaxy S9's 3,000mAh battery. The Galaxy S9 Plus's 3,500mAh battery also pales in comparison, although this amount of battery capacity should be expected from an Active device. To note, the Galaxy S8 Active has almost the same battery range as the rumored S9 Active.

Other specs and features of the Samsung Galaxy S9 Active include a 5.8-inch display with screen resolution of up to 1,440x2,960 pixels. Just like the original model, the S9 Active will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The device will receive an 8MP front-facing camera, while the rear snapper will get a 12MP sensor with variable apertures values, f/1.5 and f/2.4.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 Active is expected to be announced during the third quarter of 2018, consistent with the previous launch schedules of the past Active models. The Samsung Galaxy S8 Active was unveiled in August last year, and it is likely that the S9 Active will be presented on the same month.
