The war for top-notch products and services within the gaming industry is expected to heat up once again when players see the consumer editions of different virtual reality headsets in the market. This includes Sony's product, the name of which has been changed from Project Morpheus to Playstation VR.

Recent reports confirmed that the industry giant has shifted marketing tactics, renaming their VR headset to reflect their industry product and for name recall. Announcing the change and showcasing the latest development on the VR headset at this year's SCEJA 2015 press conference in Tokyo, Sony stressed that the name recall will help players associate the new experience of VR gaming to the familiar interface of the PlayStation 4.

Said Mayasu Ito, company EVP and Division President of PS Product Business and VP, Software Design Division: "The name 'PlayStation VR' not only directly expresses an entirely new experience from PlayStation that allows players to feel as if they are physically inside the virtual world of a game, but it also reflects our hopes that we want our users to feel a sense of familiarity as they enjoy this amazing experience."

Meanwhile, although anticipation for the upcoming peripheral is still building up, with Sony confirming that the device will be launched in the first half of 2016 and that there are already 10 confirmed game titles to provide VR support, expectant users may have to shell out as much as $400 for the Playstation VR, wrote iDitigalTimes. With the company partnering the VR announcement with the unveiling of a new 1-TB PlayStation 4 console, players who want to experience Sony's best gaming experience would have to save up for the upcoming pair.
