"Outlander" season 3 continues to grow as a report from Entertainment Weekly reveals that the character of Lord John Grey has been officially cast. According to the report, Australian actor David Berry will be portraying the character and it is noted that this is a far departure from how the character is portrayed in the original novels.

In the novels by author Diana Gabaldon, Grey is depicted as a much older man and is described as a "fine-boned" and handsome man with a small stature. Actor David Berry is almost the exact opposite given he is much younger than stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe, who play Jamie Fraser and Claire respectively.

The character is stated to form some form of strong friendship with Jamie, despite the fact that in the previous seasons Jamie and Grey - who was but a young child at the time - were mortal enemies during the Battle of Culloden. 

"He's a steadfast and honorable British subject, torn between a finely-honed sense of familial duty and a strong moral compass of right and wrong. He is boyishly handsome with an upper class rearing - the consummate gentleman. However, a scandal from his past has relegated Lord John to an undesirable position as governor of a desolate prison in Northern Scotland," reads the official description from Starz.

In the original novels Grey has grown much older and this largely due to the time-travelling aspects of the story. However, the television series will work around this somehow in order to keep the characters' ages still within reason. 

Entertainment Weekly also reveals that season 3 will pick up right where season 2 left off, with Claire pregnant and back in 1948, struggling with her life. Jamie suffers from his losses at Culloden and the two will have to do everything they can to reunite despite being separate by space and time.

"Outlander" season 3 premieres in 2017.
