A new Nintendo game console that could someday replace PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is reportedly arriving next year.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the software development kit, or devkit, of the upcoming console called Nintendo NX has already been distributed to game developers.

The game developers will the use this kit to tweak the current games so they become compatible with the upcoming game console or use them to develop new games specifically for the device.

Nintendo reportedly might already have hit game titles available just in time for NX's release.

One of the most speculated game titles set to arrive to Nintendo NX is "Zelda" Wii U or "The Legend of Zelda" NX. "Zelda" was never released on the target dates that it was supposed to come out.

This only led to speculations that the game is being prepared just in time for the arrival of Nintendo NX.

With all the news about the devkit distribution, that only brings the possibility of a 2016 release for the console. So far, Nintendo has not provided any comment about the recent reports that have been circulating online.

Meanwhile, a forum post from NintendoForums stated that the NX will feature an "impressive hardware." This piece of information was revealed by forum administrator crunchyg who talked with a senior game developer from a game publishing firm based in the United States.

In another report from Express UK, the NX has been speculated to take on several forms. For one, it is believed to be a platform rather than an individual game console and it will both be a home console and a handheld gadget.

Furthermore, the report stated that there's a possibility that Nintendo NX will not have an optical drive but will have syncing capabilities.

With the rumored release date of 2016, it is expected that more details about the Nintendo NX should come out in the coming months.
