Hardcore basketball fans are still enjoying the always-updated graphics and enhanced gameplay of this year's "NBA 2K" title. However, as with most long-running franchises, gamers can't wait to get their hands on the next installment for the game, and rumors about the upcoming "NBA 2K16" are already making their rounds online.

In the latest reports, it seems that at least three NBA superstars will grace the next game's covers. In a report from game industry insider Polygon, three covers for the "NBA 2K16" title cropped up on Instagram. With a tagline "Be the story," the three covers feature NBA stars James Harden of the Houston Rockets, Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors, and "NBA 2K15" cover athlete, Kevin Durant of Oklahoma City.

The covers also mention that the upcoming game will be presented together with Spike Lee, maybe confirming rumors that the Oscar-nominated filmmaker has a role in developing "2K16." Weeks ago, rumors about Lee's involvement with the game started cropping up with a report from the New York Post, saying that he is currently in San Francisco working on an NBA-related videogame enterprise. It seems that the director will work with the development team in setting up the Career Mode for "NBA 2K16."

Lee, a well-known fan of the New York Knicks, has been working with basketball-related films over the years. He is the writer and director of 1998's "He Got Game," a basketball story starring Ray Allen, and was made with cameo appearances of different NBA stars and league legends.

Meanwhile, 2K has yet to announce the game's release date, but based on previous launches, the new installment could be unveiled in October. "NBA 2K16" will launch on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
