'Mad Men' season 7 spoilers: Where is Don Draper off to?

The CW

Every "Mad Men" fanatic is in a dilemma between not wanting to end the long-running drama series that became part of their lives for nearly eight years and seeing how it all turns out for their favorite alpha male Don Draper. A brand new trailer for the seventh and last season of "Mad Men" was shown during the 2015 Oscars. There were no spoilers in there — just scenes from all the past seasons set to pluck the heartstrings of its forlorn fans. It was not titled "Nostalgia" for nothing.

Meanwhile, there is also major scrutiny on the drama's new poster as everyone tries to figure out what the hard-drinking, chain-smoking executive's bold face is looking into as he clenches another cigarette stick and appears as if he is driving his iconic Cadillac into the sunset. Series creator Matthew Weiner delves into the elements of the poster, dropping the subtlest hints possible.

"It's designed to tell you that Don is going somewhere," Weiner told Vulture. "He could be going to work. He could be going away from work. But there is a feeling of, I hope, a little bit of a desperate drive. We see him in his car, and we see that he's alone and I think you just have to basically feel that there's going to be a sense of motion."

Weiner adds that Don is not driving into the sunset because it is just the "end of a workday."

Meanwhile, the final seven episodes of "Mad Men" will tie all loose ends with a pretty little bow as it brings into a close everything in the lives of Don, Peggy, Roger, Joan, Betty and Pete.

"What an incredible journey this has been. I take great pride in what the entire 'Mad Men' team was able to create episode after episode, season after season. We sincerely thank the fans for joining us on this ride and hope it has meant as much to them as it has to us," Weiner stated as AMC revealed the premiere of the final season of "Mad Men" during the Television Critics Association press.

Season 7 of "Mad Men" will return on April 5.
