'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' plot: leaked photos showcase new X-Wing pilot, Admiral Ackbar's return

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens Disney/LucasFilm

Wedge Antilles, the only X-Wing pilot to survive all three original "Star Wars" films, will not be in "The Force Awakens" but a set of leaked photos from MakingStarWars.net indicates that the new film will have a new X-Wing pilot to take his place.

The photo showcases actor Greg Gunberg, famous for his role in "Heroes," as an unnamed X-Wing pilot, although the report explains that Gunberg might be playing Gorwyn. Gorwyn doesn't appear in any of the former Expanded Universe — now Star Wars Legends — materials but he was previously revealed via a report from Star Wars 7 News back in March.

Gorwyn is being referred to as the "Wedge Antilles of the Sequel Trilogy," meaning he might be one of the more prominent side characters who participates and survives the films' major battles. It is possible that Gorwyn is one of the fighter pilots who took part in the Battle of Jakku or he could be a member of Poe Dameron's (Oscar Isaac) team.

A hint pointing to the latter is a scene from the first teaser trailer for "The Force Awakens." Three X-Wing fighter jets are shown flying over a lake and it is possible that both Poe Dameron and Gorwyn are in one of those fighter jets.

However, the report also shows photos of two returning characters. One is a still shot of Admiral Ackbar, and the other features Nien Nunb.

Admiral Ackbar is one of the main leaders of the Rebel Alliance and helped the Rebels fight against the second Death Star in "Return of the Jedi." Ackbar is also known for a popular Internet meme focusing on his line, "It's a trap!"

Nien Nunb, on the other hand, was a former smuggler and was Lando Calrissian's co-pilot during the attack on the second Death Star.

MakingStarWars states that the photos featuring Ackbar and Nien Nunb might be fake but the photo of Gorwyn seems legitimate enough to guarantee the character is really going to be in "The Force Awakens."

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opens in theaters on Dec. 18.
