HTC's flagship phone last year, the U11, was met with both praise and criticism. It is a smartphone that knows exactly what it is, however, it is not something that people would commonly go far.

The U11 showed great promise, identity wise, with its innovative Edge Sense feature -- which HTC developed especially for this device. But the smartphone's lack of a dual camera and its outdated design proved to be too much of a bummer for most consumers.

However, the U11 is not the last smartphone we will be seeing from the Taiwanese tech giant.

HTC is getting ready to turn the tides around with the HTC U12, a new flagship phone that is set for a release this 2018.

According to speculations, the HTC's new flagship phone will be integrated with the latest trend in the smartphone market -- an all-screen design. Seeing as the screen became the downfall of its 2017 flagship, it is not surprising that the tech company is employing a much current and in-demand look.

Processor wise, according to a recent report, the U12 will boast of the latest in Qualcomm chipset, something that they have always done -- the Snapdragon 845 SoC. In addition, HTC will be ditching the 4 GB RAM variant for its new device and will only be offering a 6 GB RAM powered device.

According to reports, this new smartphone iteration will also be integrated with HTC original feature -- the Edge Sense. Aside from this, the new device will likely be shipped with Android Oreo on board seeing as they have already optimized the operating system for their own devices.

Unlike its predecessor, the HTC U12 is also said to be imbued with a dual camera setup -- one of the more popular features that consumers look for today.

Despite running for a 2018 debut, the HTC U12 will likely not be gracing the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 -- which officially starts next week, on Feb. 26.

Android Headlines confirmed, through an inside source, that the HTC U12 will not be making an appearance on the Barcelona fair -- with the company likely not wanting to be outshined by other industry competitors like Samsung. They add that the smartphone company is planning to host a separate event for the device's launch sometime after MWC.

So far, HTC has not confirmed any of the rumors or speculations regarding the new flagship's design and specifications.
