The recent announcement that the reboot of the Green Lantern movie in 2020 will be entitled "Green Lantern Corps" lends credence to the rumor that a team of Green Lanterns rather than a solo Green Lantern will be featured in it.
Representatives of Warner Brothers and DC Comics made the announcement at Hall H of the San Diego Comic-Con 2015 last Saturday, according to various sources.
According to the sources, the image that accompanied the announcement of the movie's official title had an uncanny resemblance to actor Chris Pine, fuelling a rumor that he will play one of the Green Lanterns.
Based on the comic book storyline, the human characters who had been Green Lanterns carried the names and identities of Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Gardner and Jessica Cruz. In all probability, since Ryan Reynolds, the actor who played Hal Jordan in the 2011 version of the movie, is confirmed to be unavailable for the remake, Pine will be playing Hal Jordan.
Before the remake, at least two Justice League movies will include the Green Lantern, and one of the human characters, probably Hal Jordan, will be in these movies, along with, among others, Henry Cavill's Superman (Clark Kent), Ben Affleck's Batman (Bruce Wayne), Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman (Princess Diana of Themyscira or Diana Prince), Jason Momoa's Aquaman (Arthur Curry), Ezra Miller's The Flash (Barry Allen) and Ray Fisher's Cyborg (Victor Stone). Will Chris Pine play Green Lantern in these movies? Rumors indicate that this is probable.
Rumors also have it that actor Tyrese Gibson is interested in, and might be recruited to play, John Stewart as Green Lantern. Will this push through, and will he play the role in the 2020 remake or in the two Justice League movies before it? This remains unconfirmed.
According to the rumors, the 2020 remake will also focus more on the intergalactic force of Green Lanterns of which Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Gardner and Jessica Cruz form only a part. This means that the plot could revolve around intergalactic rather than Earth-centric concerns. But will all human Green Lanterns play a part? This remains unconfirmed as well.
The reboot is scheduled for screening on June 19, 2020.
