The eighth and last season of the hit HBO dragon fantasy show "Game of Thrones" is at hand with the TV network confirming a 2019 release date.

A post on the official "Game of Thrones" website reads: "The epic fantasy series 'Game of Thrones' will return for its six-episode, eighth and final season in 2019."

According to GamesRadar, the conclusion to the hit epic fantasy will likely hit TV screens in spring 2019 since production on the series began late of last year, in October and November.

HBO Head of Programming Casey Bloys told The Hollywood Reporter that the shooting taking place on various countries and the time it takes for the technical and special effects impact the whole schedule of the intended release.

"The shooting is complicated enough — on different continents, with all the technical aspects — and the special effects are a whole other production period that we're trying to figure out. That is a big factor in all of this," Bloys explained.

Bloys also added that big shows like "Game of Thrones" and "Westworld" with big scopes and a larger budget require a lot of production time to produce high quality results.

"They have to do the best show they can do. With bigger shows like Westworld or Game of Thrones, sometimes if you want the big show and the big scope, it takes longer," HBO's programming head emphasized.

When it comes to promotional teasers and posters, GamesRadar pointed out that these will probably be released in July during the San Diego Comic Con.

The last season of "Game of Thrones" will consist of six episodes billed at $15 million each and an overall budget of $100 million.

Emmy-winning director Miguel Sapochnik will be back to helm the last installation of the series. David Nutter and show writers, executive producers David Benioff and D.B Weiss will also be responsible in directing several episodes of the said show.
